Jazz Special Issue 70 June July 2003 - Review " Bob's Wilder"
"While others with violence and power seek personal expression that often ends in hysteria, Rockwell goes the other way. He is the honorable artist that prepares thoroughly for the job at hand, always seeking the optimal sound, fat and singing. His eye for sidemen, for thematic material, to create lines, all of these things are carried by his ability to remove the superfluous. He works like a sculptor who can see exactly how little has to be done with a stone so it stands in harmony with it's own life. Like a carpenter who scrapes the paint out of the corners and brushes the wood clean. Rockwell's playing is filled to bursting with love for jazz, he is loyal to the material and tradition and exactly because he doesn't chase after the "special" makes him a big personality. No one can as he does find the essence and very few can tell a story. A very beautiful and perfectly created CD."
BT August 13 2003 - Review " Bob's Wilder"

Saxophone Jazz with respect for the listener : "After a couple of listenings, Bob Rockwell's CD sits like smile wrinkles on the heart" Review Rating 6 Stars out of 6

"The fantastic thing all the way through this CD is that there is never any overkill. Bob Rockwell doesn't play to show off. But that doesn't mean that it is too simple. Rockwell shows respect for the listener by believing that we all share the same experiences. Light blinds the eyes, life hurts, but there's no reason to whine loud on the saxophone in self-centredness."

"When one thinks of how often one has heard "Lady Sings The Blues" and "I like It Here" raped by overstatement one is thankful that Rockwell gives these numbers their virginity again".

"This is not blues, but melancholy, there is a big difference. Wilders jazz redeems life, and Rockwell has found home"
